Morcom Pernat is a small patent attorney practice offering a more caring approach to the preparation and prosecution of applications for patents, trade marks and industrial design registrations and to advising clients in intellectual property matters. A strong commercial focus is brought to all work undertaken to ensure each client gains cost effective business advantage from proper management of their intellectual property assets.
Our two attorneys, Norman Morcom and Fred Pernat, together bring over 55 years experience in the profession. They have all worked extensively within industry as patent and trade mark attorneys. The partnership therefore has a level of corporate experience which is unmatched by any other patent attorney firm in Australia. That experience includes extensive involvement in negotiation, licensing, collaborative research arrangements, product development and marketing.
The work of a patent attorney necessarily involves a complex blend of technological, legal and marketing expertise. At Morcom Pernat we supplement this by bringing long commercial experience to ensure that expenses are cost effective and all actions conform with the client’s business strategies. Our approach is practical rather than legalistic.
Morcom Pernat’s office is located in the technology and commercial precinct which surrounds Monash University, about 10km from Melbourne city centre. This is more accessible for most clients than an office in the city centre. It also facilitates more frequent face to face contact at our office and at clients’ premises. That in turn produces a closer relationship, with the attorney gaining a better knowledge of each client’s business strategies and the client gaining a better understanding of the intellectual property issues relevant to their particular business.
All our work is subject to the highest ethical standards and confidentiality is strictly maintained. We will decline or cease work with any party who engages in unethical activities.
We have carefully selected associates overseas to provide us with the ability to progress patent, trade mark and design matters in any country, and to ensure proper management of clients’ intellectual property portfolios internationally.
